In the head office of NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank in Hanover, which was completed in 2002, comfort index problems arose in the board area and some offices in the block-edge development due to overheating.
Using dynamic building and plant simulation a detailed analysis was carried out after the building started operation to see if the planned facades and HVAC equipment would generally be in a position to eliminate these problems when functioning properly. It was thus possible to inform the client if the problems which arose were due to a shortage of planning or execution.
In addition possible solutions were shown how overheating could be avoided in the future. These solutions essentially contained a large number of alterations to the control strategy and individual control parameters in the air conditioning equipment so that, bar a few exceptions, it was possible to avoid cost-intensive refittings.
